Pilkington Activ is an optifloat glass with a special coating on the outside that has a unique dual action. Once exposed to daylight, the coating breaks down any organic dirt and then causes rain water to 'sheet' down the glass to wash the dirt away. The coating is permanent and will not need repapplying.
It can be used on almost any exterior application, such as windows, conservatories, facades and glass roofs. It is especially useful for inaccessible windows where organic dirt normally collects, such as skylights. It is less effective in locations where sun or rain cannot reach i.e. overhangs.
Note: the minimum recommended angle is 10 degrees from horizontal, so that rain water can flow over the glass properly.
Pilkington Activ needs only a small amount of UV radiation to activate the coating - so it works on even overcast days and throughout the night.
In dry spells or if windows are heavily soiled, you may need to gently hose them to replicate rainfall or use a soft cloth and warm soapy water.

Pilkington Activ Blue glass combines the benefits of self-cleaning with solar control performance, making it the perfect choice for hard to reach places that are difficult to clean, which also require solar control, such a conservatory roofs.
Glass provides a better view than polycarbonate, which can also become dirty quickly. A glass roof is much quieter than polycarbonate in rain and hail.
Pilkington Activ Blue combines solar control and self-cleaning properties. It helps reduce heat build up (further ventiliation may also be required). Its self cleaning properties work on cloudy days and during the night and is easily cleaned during dry spells by hosing down.
The attractive blue colour offers excellent aesthetics and allows good light transmittance.
